I tried to get into it. I really, really did. But unfortunately, I had to give up 30% in. I was really excited at first because the title seemed so interesting, and the blurb got me thrilled, too. But the characters and the way it was written really blew it for me. First and foremost, the characters felt so... flat. I couldn't empathize with Aria, which I think is a cool name. The beginning was entirely confusing. So many terms weren't explained clearly and properly, or how they came to be that way with the Realms and stuff... I understand that it's some sort of virtual reality sort of thing, but how it came to be or how they got that kind of technology weren't there and it really disappointed me. I'm not sure if it was explained later on, but if it was, I think it would have been wiser if it was made clear earlier.
Aside from that, I didn't like the way it was written. At all. It reminded me too much of Extinction Point, which I thought was a book with a good premise but bad writing. It felt like the author was writing what the character was doing every second. "He did this, then he did that, and after that he did this..." I swear if the character farted, it would have been described, too. I'm not a fan of this kind, and honestly, I think it's the main reason why I couldn't connect to the book at all.
Nevertheless, I rate this 2 stars for the premise, but no more beyond that.
